Mary Anne Evans (1819-1880) is most well-known for her pen-name, George Eliot. Evans was a novelist, poet, and journalist; she was one of the leading writers of the Victorian Era. Her writing style was noted for its realism and psychological insight. She published all her works under a male pen-name in order to ensure her works would be taken seriously.
